Where GCs are building

Commercial plumbing for general contractors on the Denver metro and the Colorado Front Range. Mechanical, here, means the piping in those packages: water, waste, and fixtures. Not HVAC, not process piping, and not medical gas.

02 — The shop

Owner on the relationships. A master on the work.

Owner-operator

Brandon Chase

Service-disabled Army National Guard veteran and owner of Fathom Mechanical, a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. He runs GC relationships from bid through closeout.

Trade

Qualifying master plumber

Full-time responsible master. Owns code, field standards, and supervision of the plumbing. Colorado keeps that seat to one contractor at a time. Fathom is hiring for it.

U.S. Small Business Administration Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Certified

Certified SDVOSB

A certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business on the team.

Fathom’s certification is a tool for the general contractor, on federal, state, and local work across the Denver metro and the Colorado Front Range.

  • Set-asides and preferences. Eligibility for federal, state, and local programs that reserve or prefer SDVOSB firms.
  • Subcontracting credit. SDVOSB participation a prime can count toward its subcontracting goals.
  • Public infrastructure. A stronger seat on government and public packages along the Front Range.
  • Owner requirements. A cleaner path when the owner requires veteran-owned participation.

03 — On the job

How a GC package is run

  • Schedule and coordination

Look-aheads, trade coordination, and a commercial contact who answers the superintendent. Brandon owns that relationship.

  • Rough-in through trim

Underground, rough, top-out, and fixture trim on the GC’s sequence. The qualifying master owns means, methods, and code.

  • Changes and punch

Change orders priced against the drawings and the field. Punch is part of the package. We say so when a scope is outside a new shop.
